Newquay Old Cornwall Society

Newquay Old Cornwall Society has been running for some 90 years and has carried out a good number of restoration and preservation projects as well as collecting an archive of photographs and documents. Recently the Newquay Old Cornwall Archaeology Group has been active in carrying out a large amount of clearance work on a number of sites throughout the seven parishes covered by the society.

Since 2002 Newquay Old Cornwall Society have run a museum room at Dairyland Farm World augmenting the farming museum there. This has recently been expanded and joined by Redruth Old Cornwall Society with a variety of additional displays of historic artefacts.

They are our partner at Newquay Heritage Archive & Museum, a volunteer led community museum and archive in the heart of old Newquay.

Newquay Heritage Archive & Museum was originally set up in 2013 as an archive of photographs and documents collected by Newquay Old Cornwall Society over many decades. This had been situated at the top of the Newquay Council offices, but relocation to Central House meant that access by the public was far easier.

In 2014 an adjacent room became available and a Newquay Old Cornwall Society museum room was created. Since then the corridor became the 'Corridor Gallery' with lots of exhibition and display material on show. The addition of the Association for Cornish Heritage museum and gallery room in April 2019 provided additional material for visitors.

A separate Association for Cornish Heritage research room is now available with many hundreds of books relating to Cornwall available for researchers. Computer and WiFi access is also available as is information from some 6,000 more books, journals and documents from a private collection. The book collection is also growing to include Celtic themes.
