Douglas Houzen Pinder [1886-1949]
Douglas Houzen Pinder one of Newquay's most popular artists from the early 20th century whose paintings are held by many long established Newquay families.
This exhibition commemorated the 70th anniversary of his death in 1949 and was an opportunity to share information and provide a range of his paintings to the general public in the early 21st century.
A small selection of Douglas Pinder's work is included here and over the coming years exhibitions will be held by Newquay Heritage Archive & Museum of his and other vintage work by Newquay's artists through the years from the mid 19th century.
A range of postcards are available at Newquay Heritage Archive & Museum of paintings by vintage and contemporary artists showing Newquay scenes. Packs of 6 postcards and greetings cards of Douglas Pinders work will be available from the spring of 2020 from Newquay Heritage Archive & Museum.
Douglas H Pinder Newquay Artist - Courtenay Smale filmed at an exhibition that took place at Hotel Bristol in November 2019 marking the 70th anniversary of Pinders death. This exhibition was one of the largest public exhibitions of his work in over 50 years. Courtenay Smale a leading authority on Douglas Pinder kindly hosted this as part of the museums annual exhibition of its work and activities. The paintings were provided by Association for Cornish Heritage and by Courtenay Smale, the exhibition being opened by Elizabeth Carne, Grand Bard of Gorsedh Kernow. Courtenay Smale is a Bard of Gorsedh Kernow bardic name Studhyer Munlow
